about

IV. Menoceus: “The Ultimate Gift…”

Seven armies besieged the city of Thebes. A civil war raged between two princes of Thebes, who each wanted the royal throne and were willing to spend their citizen’s lives for it. Menoceus, a noble of Thebes, received a prophecy from an oracle, saying that fate would spare his city if he sacrificed himself to Ares, the god of war.

To save his city, and break the curse of madness and suffering that had plagued his family for generations, the young Menoceus threw himself from the city’s battlements.

lyrics

For the smiles traded slyly.
For our fathers who were sown.
For the band that sang no song unseemly.

Let me not fall in despair.
Let me not fall in despair.

So that seven gates let in only friends.
So that this curse is cut away.
So that the butcher drinks his fill,
drinks his fill.

Let me not fall in despair.
Let me not fall in despair.

If this mad pox melts away.
If those standards tear and flutter.
If his words are sage and true.

His words are sage and true.
His words are sage and true.
