VI. Asclepius: “The Great Healer…”

Before Asclepius, son of Apollo, became the greatest healer in mythical Greece, he was a simple youth who befriended and cared for a wise snake. In gratitude, the snake whispered secrets to him, knowledge of the arts of medicine.

Henceforth he carried a plain staff with a snake wound around its shaft: this Rod of Asclepius remains a symbol of medicine and healing to this day.

As Asclepius grew into a man, he learned medicine from the centaurs and more divine sources. He mixed his medicines with Gorgon blood, crafting cures so potent they could raise the dead. The gods were feared what would happen if Asclepius’s knowledge spread and humanity learned to save each other.

They wrote this setting’s premise,
they set this cycle spinning,
they had us live to die.

Ten seconds from disaster,
ten paces from a poison,
